RE: 20.7 MPG on my Dodge dually

I have achieved similar results over shorter distances with my 2005 5.9 DRW. This winter I hit a snow /ice storm that forced me to slow down to around 50 mph for a 100 mile stretch, and despite being in 4WD the whole time I averaged 22.7 mpg. On a 5000 mile trip through western Canada and USA (with camper) I averaged 15.8 mpg calculated, with a high between fill ups of 18.2 mpg and a low of 8.6 mpg.

RE: F350 V10 6.8litre gas – what rear end 3.73, 4.10 or 4.30?

Brad is right, no LS is much safer on ice... since without it you can't get moving and therefore cannot crash! :B

RE: Is there a hybride in your future?

Beach Bum wrote: I think hybrids represent a waste of time and money... once we have single mode hydrogen powered vehicles, then we have a step worth taking. Everything else is a half step. The net result of hydrogen combustion is heat and water. I read that Honda has one in development, no surprise. We also have to remember that it currently takes 100Kwh of energy to make, compress, transport, and store 19Kwh worth of hydrogen energy. With the electrical grid in North America currently being so marginal there is no room for any significant hydrogen production. We also have to be aware of where the input electrical energy is coming from, it makes no sense to burn 100 tons of coal to make half a ton of hydrogen.

RE: Truck Campers, Duallys and Snow

Camper off = bad. Camper on = better. Camper and 4x4 on = much better. Watch out for corners with no camber or wrong camber, fish tailing is hard to correct with all that weight on the back trying to slide downhill. Keep up your momentum since trying to get started on an uphill grade is difficult on packed snow and ice. Always travel at a speed that the conditions permit and you are comfortable with. Leave extra distance in front. Be careful gearing down, too much gear and your back end may pass your front end!

RE: I could use some help please, need good insert molding.

It looks like standard trim insert, when it is new it's a flat ribbon, over time it takes on the curved shape shown in your picture. I went through the same process as you... looked all over town for the curved molding. I even went to several RV parts departments who had no idea where to get the curved stuff, then I found an experienced technician who new what he was doing! He sold me a 50 ft roll for around $20.

RE: small LP tanks

I have a tree that attatches to a 5 lb tank and provides 3 outlets for attatching other appliances. We use the lower one for the grill and screw a lantern on the top one. The tank generally lasts us all summer.

RE: fraservalley rv rental

Dogslow, over the summer I noticed lots of Fraserway rigs in these parts, they seem pretty popular. What time of year will you be here, and what type of camping do you prefer (near villages and amenities or off in a quieter campground). If you travel in the off season (like now) many of the smaller remote campgrounds may be closed in the mountain parks.
